Buy It
Two months ago I bought the Hamilton Beach 31507 which I am told by HB is the same as this one, only without the stainless steel front. If you are looking for a toaster oven that does not take up much space yet holds a 9" cake pan, this is the one for you. It bakes, it broils, and voila it toasts evenly. You just have to experiment a little bit as to whether to choose the light toast icon or the dark icon. Just remember to turn the timer dial past 10 and then back to your toast setting. We have baked and broiled chicken breasts and fish, have heated up vegetable filled croissants. Made open faced sandwiches. Everything came out perfectly. There are two slot heights for the rack, and the rack itself is configured to be used high or low. The slide out crumb pan is very convenient. The only negative is that the bake pan while sturdy seems to have a thin coating which I think will break down over time. If that happens I will just get another bake pan. One thing to look out for when...
I don't like this toaster/oven bad rack design
The toaster is hard to control your toast level. It is an imprecise dial you can never get the same level of toasting twice in a row so you are forced to really keep an eye on the toast. The only good thing is that you have a nice sized window to see in clearly. If you want to only make toast, don't get this. The wire rack could be dangerous IMO. When it is pulled out to extract your toast, it has a tendency to slip out toward you, of course it is very hot. So now I don't pull the rack out, but a tiny bit and gingerly stick my hand or a fork in to bring the toast to me, not the rack. Not a good way of doing it. It does have a nice bottom flat plate that I think is just for keeping it clean, very easy to pull out and wash out allowing you to keep the unit clean. With my previous toaster/ovens that don't usually last long, I would toast and cook occasionally small things like fish or even have tried a single steak. I don't use this unit for the reasons stated. Don't feel comfortable...
Huge disappointment
I really needed something to serve as a second oven and thought this might do. However, it is WAY too small for what they claim it can do. They could avoid a lot of unhappy customers if they tell you the inside dimensions of this oven. There is no way it holds 6 slices of bread unless you have a really narrow loaf. I already have a Cuisinart toaster oven that is a smaller unit but is larger inside than this oven. I sent this back the very next day.
